WHEW! That’s a gigantic wall of text!

I’m not going to do a detailed breakdown, since it might be completely out the window with the impending rebalancing. So instead I’ll keep it relatively high level.

Right off the bat, the Catscorts compare most closely to the T6 Tactical Escort (i.e. the Valiant/Defiant): Same hull, more shields, slightly faster, turn slightly worse, less weapon power. In terms of Boffs, the LtC. seat is Sci/Intel rather than the Valiant’s Tac/Pilot, which depends on how the rebalancing turns out, may be either a pro or a con. However I suspect it will be a pro, because the LtC. Sci allows you to slot GW for cannon fun, which the Valiant couldn’t do.

While these Catscorts look like they will perform on par with the Valiant (maybe a tick better), if you remember I wasn’t very impressed with the Valiant to begin with. Based on stats alone these new ships are average, not exceptional, so I suspect they’ll have to sell themselves based on form rather than function. If you have a kitty toon, you really don’t wanna miss these ships because the kitties belong in them!

  1. Seating + Console set up is actually almost identical to the science flavoured Pilot Ships, like the Icarus. They’re marginally tougher, but definitely not as zippy. And only the one Intel spec seat compared to the Icarus’ 2 Pilot flavoured ones… oh, and you need to get the fleet version for the +1 tac console slot.

They might not be the most amazing awesome boats ever, but the lt. cmdr sci is nice and the explodey railgun if it’s not a total gimmick could make them pretty decent escorts. Still, Intel isn’t exactly new and exciting anymore. I can see why people might think them lackluster or might skip them and wait for their current escorts to get Heavy Weapons in a month.

It was smart to make them Allied race designs to entice the players of, cause they’re kind of a hard sell if you’ve already got a T6 escort that’s prolly been docked more often than not lately.

    1. I didn’t compare these ships to the pilot ships because the 4/3 vs 5/2 weapon layouts are fundamentally different: 4/3 are at a disadvantage right off the bat so it’s not an apple-to-apple comparison.

Weird thing is, this kinda highlights the fact that Cryptic is running out of stat variations for their ships – we’re starting to see multiple ships of very similar stats.
