Summer Event Ship – the Vorgon Ryn’kodan Carrier

Last week Cryptic announced the ship for the upcoming Summer Event is the Vorgon Ryn’kodan carrier, and today they show the stats.

Vorgon Ryn’kodan Carrier [T6]

The Vorgon Ryn’kodan Carrier is the durable command and control vessel that makes up the focal point of any Vorgon attack fleet. Though lacking the maneuverability of other Vorgon vessels, this extremely resilient ship is capable of outlasting foes foolish enough to underestimate its capabilities.

This starship features a Lieutenant Universal/Temporal Operative Specialist seat.

Console – Universal – Subphasic Defense Drone

The Vorgon developed this unique drone in an attempt to duplicate the effects of the Tox Uthat – a powerful device they once aggressively sought across the time-space continuum. The drone is equipped with a phasic inhibitor which can absorb directed energy, inverting the flow in such a way to debilitate attackers’ weapons. To add to its utility, the Vorgon also outfit these drones with defensive enhancements that fortify and regenerate the shields of the ship that launches them.

This console provides a passive boost to Shield Subsystem Power and Projectile Damage.

This console may be equipped on any Vorgon starship.

Restorative Support (Starship Trait)

After achieving Level 5 in your Vorgon Ryn’kodan Carrier (T6), you will unlock the Restorative Support Starship Trait. While this trait is slotted, using Hull Heal abilities will create a support probe at the target’s location (or self). This probe will constantly restore a small amount of Hull on its target, as well as passively draining the shields of nearby foes.

Interestingly, this thing is not a cross-factional carrier-equivalent to the Jupiter – the Jupiter is Science-oriented, but the Ryn’kodan is an Engineering boat. Which, incidentally, is kinda disappointing to me personally because I have been thinking about putting Nessi in an alien Science-ship…. and this ship looks gorgeous. Nessi is currently cruising around in the Eternal, which is a top-tier Science ship… I just absolutely loathe its design aesthetics (along with the Chronos). Oh well. I may still stick her in this but with a respecc, we’ll have to see.

The trait is definitely interesting for a tank/support build, and maybe even benefit a drain build; I might be able to make use of this on Kala and Gortusk, who are my two Engineer captains in heavy tank ships. I wish the descriptions for these traits are not so vague though; how much does the probe heal? How much shield does it drain? How “nearby” are nearby foes? These things are kinda important to know, Cryptic!

While this is a nice ship to have, I suspect not many players will fly the Ryn’kodan in the long run simply because it’s a carrier.

  1. Wow. Carriers aren’t normally my thing, but this does looks like pretty nice. Tank/support role is what I was thinking too. I do wish Cryptic would’ve told us more about it, but I suspect that more details will soon be forthcoming (I would hope!).

  2. I’m actually really happy with another event carrier. Carriers are very very alt friendly. Hangar pets are in a much better place than they once were providing easy sources of consistent damage for little resource investment. These being frigates make them even better.
6 weapon slots seem bad, but it greatly reduces your upgrade costs. Another great upside to 6 weapons is the reduced power drain from a full broadside. This means you can avoid expensive power drain mitigation gear/traits.

I’m glad we are getting am alt-friendly ship, as well as a great ship for newer players. I feel like this ship will perform really well on a budget.

    1. Like I said, I don’t mind this being a carrier. I just wish it’s a Science carrier rather than an Engineering one. That said I understand why they did this — after all, both the Jupiter and the Sarr Theln are already Science Carriers, giving us another one would be redundant.
