Fiction – Star Trek Online First Contact (Speculative Exobiology)

I finally finished the boring and frustrating Omega Event grind and got the Bajoran Interceptor for all my toons. While I have no intention of flying it, any ASS card is good and the console that comes with it looks pretty useful… especially on Phaser builds and I have 3 toons who can benefit from it. Anyway, I may talk about them another day, but today, something I idly wrote over lunch break…

STO 8th Anniversary Arriveth

Have you noticed STO has been wonky in the last couple of weeks? Every time you start the game or shut down the game, there is always a gigantic patch waiting which goes away after DLing maybe 10% of it? Well last night the REAL gigantic patch hit because it’s the 8th Anniversary Patch. Even with my broadband connection it took like 20 minutes to DL; I heard it took Fungi 4 hours.

Ugh.

But hey, it was worth it.

STO 8th Anniversary

For the 8th Anniversary of Star Trek Online, Cryptic announced a couple of things. There is currently a giveaway going on …and never say no to freebies… along with some activities we usually get for Anniversaries. Call me crazy, but whatever the nine new emotes are, those are the things that intrigue me the most.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Anniversary without a new free ship. In this case, a Bajoran Interceptor.

Achtung – Panzer!

As gaming goes, I am very picky…. often by necessity. See, I suffer from Simulation Sickness, which means I get headaches and sometimes nausea when playing first-person video games. This problem eliminates a significant number of options for me, which is why I mostly play MMORPGs that don’t force a fisheye view on players (An example of this is Age of Conan, which I tried a couple of years ago but couldn’t play for more than half an hour before passing out with a giant headache), and Real-Time-Strategy games.

Real-Time-Strategy games in particular are definitely a favorite. Recently we’ve gone back to a RTS game that we have played on-and-off in the past: Men of War Assault Squad 2.

REpetitively REcycling REfuse. REjoice? REgrettable?

S’right, there’s a lot of stuff being pushed out on STO lately:┬áRe-Engineering! Re-generating the Infinity Lockbox! Feature Episode Replay! Sompek Returns! It sure is a lot of Re- being used and lots of shit being Re-cycled!

Do I sound excited by all of this through my liberal use of exclamation marks? Hell yeah! Because Exclamation marks are cheap and today my sarcastic bitchiness is just bursting at the seams!

Good and Evil Kitties

This post is long overdue: I began drafting this in late November but never got around to finishing it, because we were in the midst of leveling these new toons. At this point most of what I wrote is outdated, but I just wanna show off the new guys!

I guess I should go and update the original post (for instance, all the new toons have progressed quite a bit since), but… I don’t wanna. Right now I am sort of in a maintenance mode on Star Trek Online, mainly just logging in to do daily refinements and little else. Frankly, there isn’t much going on — the Winter Event is more of a chore to me than an actual event, and the last time any new content is released was back in October. It’s been a bit of a drought on STO, but it’s giving me an opportunity to focus on something else for a change. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Now on to the original post.
