Nothing too special here; this is the standard STO fare where Cryptic puts together a new event with some event rewards alongwith a new episode. Don’t get me wrong, I very much appreciate that Cryptic is still rolling out new episodes for STO semi-regularly; it fits the whole Star-Trek-as-an-ongoing-TV-Series motif, although sometimes I feel Cryptic should focus their efforts on creating more repeatable content. As nice as episodes are, people tend to do them once and never go back again, unless it’s an episode that they can farm for specific rewards.

Quick Note: The post above is from yesterday Thursday May 4th, and it contains an error. Completing TFO’s awards TWO points, not ONE, which would be consistent with past events. Meh, errors in Cryptic announcements are a feature at this point and are meme-worthy.

The rewards for this event are interesting in that they are Tetryon-based — definitely the least-used and least-popular energy type in the game. The main reason is that it has the fewest number of gear and sets to support it: even though in the last few years Cryptic tried to give Tetryon some more love, it’s nowhere close to the build versability available to phasers and disruptors. A secondary reason is that some players find the look and sound effects of tetryon weapons grating. Now these are never things that bother me too much personally, but if they do bother you, then yes, tetryon weapons do have weird visual and audio effects. I have one toon with a dedicated Tetryon build so I’m interested in getting the new reward set to see if it can enhance her build. Even though she’s suboptimal, I still trot out M’Riss regularly to complete Endeavors that require space Tetryon damage.

Looks like I’ll be grinding this Event a bit! Cryptic will probably announce the 3rd Event Campaign immediately after this one, then the 2023 Summer Event after that. The STO Hamster Wheel must spin forever!
